Tokyo is an extremely gorgeous city which has evolved as one of the major tourist destinations in Asia. There are many interesting place to see in Tokyo and you will be able to witness a great combination of the occidental and oriental culture here. Some of the major attractions of Tokyo are:
Museums in Tokyo: Tokyo is home to some of the greatest museums in Japan. Tokyo National Museum, Mori Art Museum, Edo-Tokyo Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum are some of the museums of in this city. Each of these museums has something unique in display like, samurai artifacts, Japanese historical artifacts and modern Japanese art.
Temples of Japan: Some of the main attractions of Tokyo are its gorgeous temples. Meiji Shrine, Zojoji Temple, Sensoji Temple, Yasukuni Shrine and Sengakuji Temple are most popular temples in Tokyo.
Gardens in Tokyo: Japan is famous for its pretty beautiful gardens and Tokyo is not an exception. The most popular gardens in this city are Rikugien, Hama Rikyu, Koishikawa Korakuen, Ueno Park and Palace East Gardens.

Some of the other attractions in this city are the Imperial Palace, Tsukiji Fish Market and Ryogoku. Imperial Palace is at the heart of Tokyo city and its main landmark. The Tsukiji Fish Market is the biggest fish market in the world and an attraction indeed as you can see the greatest variety of sea animals. To check out the Grand Sumo Tournament you will have to go to Ryogoku.

You will not be short of accommodation options in Tokyo. Tokyo is a major international tourist attraction of Japan and also its most significant business hub. This city is home to some of the greatest hotel chains under the sun. Some other forms of accommodations apart from hotels are youth hostels, minshukus and ryokan. Minshukus are special Japanese style tourist accommodations and ryokan are Japanese style inns. There are hotels of every grade in Tokyo and also many budget hotels. It is better to book a place of accommodation before arriving in this city. Tourists who want to enjoy a perfect traditional Japanese lifestyle should choose to stay in ryokans and minshukus. Youth hostels in Tokyo are extremely comfortable and affordable and most of the tourists choose to stay here.

Eating Out

In Tokyo, there are plenty of fast food centers as lifestyle in this city is very fast. There are many cheap restaurants in this city for a quick bite. There are plenty of noodles, ramen and ‘curry rice’ shops in Tokyo where you can have a nice meal under thousand yen. In Japan, there are also vending machines from where you can get your food instantly. Sushi bars are very common and affordable options for a meal. Some of the most popular Japanese fast food centers are Yoshinoya, Tenya and McDonalds. The two coffee shop chains in the city of Tokyo are Pronto and Doutour. In the stores like Seven Eleven, Family Mart and Lawsons you will be able to find ready made meals. For a fancier diner or a lunch you can go to restaurants located in various shopping malls of Tokyo. In some of the Indian restaurants you can find all you can eat buffet for just 1000 yen. To pamper yourself once in a while you can go to the fancy Japanese restaurants which have a guide and some of the most exotic Japanese dishes.

Getting Around

Tokyo is an extremely busy city with extremely high population density. The trains and the subways here are the most comfortable and affordable modes of transportation here. There are two subway networks in Tokyo and during rush hour the trains get very crowded. You can travel in the JR trains for free if you have the Japan Rail Pass. You can get tickets and passes from automatic vending machine. You can find trains in Tokyo from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m.
Taxis are another common way of transportation; however, the cost can be little high. The taxi fares in Tokyo start from 710 yen but at night 20 % extra charge is levied on the fare. You do not need to tip the taxi driver. There are usually GPS car navi systems in every cab which will help is locating your destination.
Driving a car in Tokyo can be a challenge as there are traffic jams and also very narrow streets. If you are driving a car try sticking to the expressways.
Buses are also very common way of traveling in Tokyo as there are many areas in the city where you cannot reach by train.
It is also possible to navigate within the city of Tokyo in a Water Bus along the Tokyo Bay and Sumida River.
There are no bicycles lanes in Tokyo but it is a very common way of transportation.

Getting There

There are two large airports in the city of Tokyo, international and domestic, which are, Narita Airport and Haneda Airport respectively. Flights from all over the world come to Tokyo as it is one of the most significant cities in the world. There is a bullet train service from Nagoya, Osaka and Kyoto to Tokyo and there is highly discounted. You can also come to the city by car or bus. Buses are much cheaper than trains. The two major bus companies giving service in Tokyo are 123bus and The JR Bus Group. It is also possible to go to Tokyo via water route. Ariake Ferry Terminal is the long distance ferry terminal in Tokyo.

Shopping

In Tokyo, you will be able to find all kinds of things which are on sale in various parts of the world. Cash is mostly used for shopping rather than credit cards. Foreign cards are not accepted by the ATMs in Japan. All throughout the city you can find convenience stores where you will find al kinds of daily amenities. In the Akihabara region of Tokyo you will be able to find ‘anime’ and ‘manga’ which are the specialties of Japan. If you are interested in antique there is no better place to go in Tokyo than the Antique Malls and Antique Market. There is an Antique festival five to six times in a year. Japan is a great place for buying all kinds of electronic goods. You will find ample amount of western clothes in Tokyo mostly in the Shibuya and Harajuku area. Apart from malls and stores, you can do some shopping at the street markets of Tokyo.

Nightlife

The city of Tokyo changes metaphorically with nightfall. The city comes to life and illuminates itself after dusk with paper lanterns and big neo light banners. This city seldom sleeps and life becomes really exciting at night. The entertainment districts in Tokyo are always crowded even till 3 a.m. there are various nightclubs and bars in the city where the environment is totally electrifying. There are western style bars in Tokyo which are popular with the young generation. The Hostess bars are found in all parts of Japan and even in Tokyo. Some of the great bars in this city are:
