Contracts vary depending upon the organization you are with in India. The
points covered by a contract may include the minimum number of guaranteed
hours, amount and frequency of pay, length of service, hours the teachers
must be available to teach, whether teachers can teach classes outside of
the school, and conditions under which the contract can be broken. Be aware
that some schools will ask you to teach based on a verbal contract only. If
this is the case, be sure that you and the administration are clear on the
conditions of your employment, so there are no surprises later on. The
contents of the new standard contract for employment of foreign teachers
include the following:
(1) Terms of Contract;
(2) Work assignment of employee;
(3) Employee's monthly salary;
(4) Employer's obligations;
(5) Employee's obligations;
(6) Modification, cancellation and termination of the contract;
(7) Bails;
(8) Arbitration
Before signing the contract, do read the clauses very carefully and
understand what you will be offered during your teaching stint. In addition,
sometimes, your contract is extendable upon completion. Discuss this option
with your potential employer. Most importantly, ensure that you look over
the contract before you commit to the job.
